Tour details

Fly your drone and discover Katla in a exclusive way

Discover one of Iceland’s most spectacular natural wonders from a completely new perspective on this exclusive Katla Ice Cave adventure where you will be able to fly your own drone!

This unique Super Jeep tour is specially designed for travelers and creators who want to explore the famous Katla blue ice cave while legally flying drones at carefully selected locations along the route in an open tour.

Starting from Vík, this 4-hour adventure combines off-road exploration, dramatic volcanic landscapes, glacier views, and multiple drone stops, including near the glacier, at Hafursey mountain, and on a private black sand beach.

Super Jeep adventure from Vik

Your journey begins in Vík, where you’ll meet your expert local guide and board a powerful Super Jeep built to handle Iceland’s toughest terrain. As we leave the main road behind, we drive across vast black sand deserts, glacial rivers, and volcanic landscapes shaped by centuries of eruptions and ice.

This route alone is an adventure, offering endless photo opportunities and dramatic scenery on the way to the glacier.

First drone stop: Hafursey mountain

Before reaching the glacier, we stop at Hafursey, a striking volcanic mountain rising from the surrounding black sands. This is your first designated drone flight location and one of the most visually impressive spots in the area.

From here, you can capture sweeping aerial views of glaciers, rivers, and endless volcanic plains. A perfect introduction to Iceland’s raw and untouched beauty.

Katla Blue Ice Cave & glacier drone flight

Next, we continue toward the glacier area near Katla, home to one of Iceland’s most impressive blue ice caves. Upon arrival, you’ll have time to fly your drone near the glacier, capturing powerful aerial shots of the ice, crevasses, and surrounding volcanic terrain.

After the drone flight, we gear up for a short guided walk to the Katla Blue Ice Cave. Inside, you’ll witness stunning shades of deep blue ice layered with volcanic ash, a rare and ever-changing natural formation created by the interaction of fire and ice. The intense blue tones make this cave one of the most photogenic blue ice cave in Iceland.

Your guide will explain how the cave forms, how it changes throughout the seasons, and why Katla’s glacier environment is so unique.

Final drone stop: Black sand beach

On the way back to Vík, the adventure continues with a final stop at a private black sand beach away from crowds, as Reynisfjara beach. Here, you’ll have another opportunity to fly your drone and capture dramatic aerial footage of volcanic sands, powerful Atlantic waves, and Iceland’s rugged coastline, a perfect contrast to the glacier landscapes earlier in the tour.
